Athens forum highlights growing China-Greece cooperation

ATHENS, May 15 (Xinhua) -- A forum on China-Greece cooperation and exchanges was held in Athens earlier this week, drawing participation from representatives across various sectors, including government, finance, business, and media communities.

Chinese Ambassador to Greece Fang Qiu emphasized the potential for enhanced China-Greece cooperation under China's high-standard opening up at the opening ceremony, which was held at the historic Zappeion Hall in central Athens on Monday.

Fang expressed China's willingness to work with Greece to advance Belt and Road cooperation, deepen China-Europe connectivity, and deliver tangible outcomes. He also highlighted the importance of drawing on the wisdom and responsibility of the two ancient civilizations to contribute stability and constructive forces to the world.

Ioannis Theofanopoulos, former Greek ambassador to China and president of the Greece-China Friendship Association, spoke warmly of the cultural connections and friendship between the two nations, despite geographical distance. He affirmed the association's ongoing commitment to fostering people-to-people exchanges and strengthening mutual understanding between the Greek and Chinese people.

Emilios Perdikaris, chairman of the board and general manager at AMNA, expressed his desire to expand media cooperation between Greece and China. He underscored the role of journalism in promoting mutual understanding and exchanges between civilizations.

The forum featured sub-forums on economy and finance, energy, and sustainable development, with topics focusing on financial cooperation, green development, and mutual learning among civilizations.
