DUBAI, 23rd March, 2022 (WAM) - The strategic partnership between Greece and the United Arab Emirates envisions a peaceful and prosperous region, a visiting top Greek official told the Emirates News Agency (WAM), adding that bilateral ties will be deepened in the coming years.
Panagiotis Pikrammenos, the Deputy Prime Minister of Greece, who is on an official visit to the UAE, said on Tuesday, "In the recent years, Greece and the UAE have forged a strong and strategic partnership, based on our common vision for a peaceful and prosperous development in our greater neighbourhood and on our commitment to the principles of International Law."
He added in an exclusive statement to WAM, "We have enhanced our bilateral relations in a plethora of fields and scopes, including economy, politics, defence, energy, transport, tourism and culture, and I am very optimistic that we are going to deepen further our cooperation in the years to come."
Pikrammenos is scheduled to attend the Greek National Day Celebrations at the Expo 2020 Dubai on Tuesday.
"It is my great pleasure to be here today to celebrate the National Day of Greece at Expo 2020 Dubai. I would like to congratulate the UAE on an excellent organisation of the Expo 2020, the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East region, and at a time that the world is faced with an unprecedented pandemic."
The deputy prime minister, who reached Dubai late on Monday, said the Greek Pavilion at the Expo has thus far received more than 500,000 visitors.
The pavilion has showcased key sectors of the Greek economy that has embraced innovation, explained Pikrammenos, who is leading an official delegation to the UAE.
Greece and the UAE have intensified high-level interactions in recent years.
As WAM reported on 18th March, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; and Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Greece, discussed by phone the friendship and strategic partnership that bind the two countries and means to further develop them in various fields. Both leaders had a similar discussion on phone in early December 2021.
Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, visited the Greek capital Athens in December 2021 and met with the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias.
In February, a Greek delegation of startups and research centres visited the UAE to participate in the Greek Innovation Business Forum at the Expo 2020 Dubai.
