JERUSALEM, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv beat Greek side Olympiacos Piraeus 84-69 in the 22nd round of Euroleague basketball on Thursday evening.
The Israeli hosts achieved their eighth victory in 19 games so far, after eight consecutive losses, while Olympiacos remained with 12 wins in 19 games.
About 9,000 fans at the Menorah Mivtachim Arena in the coastal city of Tel Aviv saw the home team lead the first quarter 19-16, mostly thanks to points and rebounds by Ante Zizic.
Shaquielle McKissic inspired the Greek team to take a 28-23 lead in the 15th minute, but unstoppable Zizic helped Maccabi regain the lead by halftime, 40-38.
Zizic and Keenan Evans increased the home lead to 60-49 before the third quarter ended at 66-56.
Angelo Caloiaro made it 75-57 with three free throws, securing the home win with 5:06 minutes on the clock.
Zizic scored a game-high 23 points, with Keenan adding 14 more.
Georgios Printezis topped Olympiacos scorers with 13 points.
Maccabi will play their next game at home against Alba Berlin on Tuesday, while Olympiacos will host Red Star Belgrade two evenings later.
